The Triakis Icosahedron can be seen as an icosahedron with triangular pyramids augmented to each face. So, it’s a star with 20 points formed by 20x3=60 triangular faces.
This is a modular origami and the units are the same used on my Excavated Dodecahedron. The 30 units are well connected without glue. You can make it with or without the color changed edges on the base of the pyramids, depending on which side of the unit you use.
You can use the same unit to build other figures like the Triakis Tetrahedron, Triakis Octahedron, Tetrakis Hexahedron and Pentakis Dodecahedron.
