Puparia by Shingo Tamagawa (Rescored by Marwan Ramen)

This short film was originally by Shingo Tamagawa. It was a reflective and interesting process working on this cue and researching the background, story, and themes of this short film by Shingo Tamagawa. Reich’s original temp track aided a lot in establishing the tone of the film, though it was pretty singular and rigid, and part of my aim with this rescore was molding the cue to fit the story and themes better. This proved somewhat difficult though. The story continues to prove itself elusive despite multiple rewatches and a long search deep into the internet into what this all meant. What was most helpful was a recent doc and interview that followed this film’s creation over the last 3 years by Archipel. Through it, I gained massive insight into what was going on in Shingo’s mind as to why he made this. Through that interview, it appears as though the story is secondary to the vibe that was set by the visuals. He created this short film with no storyboard, and elected to seq
