Cop’s Daughter Gets Arrested for DUI in Pullman, WA
On August 27, 2021 at approximately 2:37 AM, Deputy Cory Alcantar of the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office observed a 2013 Honda Accord make an improper turn in the vicinity of Monroe Street and Stadium Way. He proceeded to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the Willow Place Apartments. The driver was identified as 19-year-old Ashley Hollinger.
Ashley was only able to provide Deputy Alcantar with her registration, but she was not in possession of her license or proof of insurance. She also informed the Deputy that her father was a police officer with the Port of Seattle Police Department. Deputy Alcantar noticed that Ashley’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and he detected the odor of alcohol coming from her breath. He proceeded to ask Ashley how much she had been drinking, and she admitted to consuming 3 White Claws in the hours prior. Based on the indicators of impairment, Deputy Alcantar told Ashley that she would be afforded an opportunity to perform voluntary field sobriety exercises.
The first exercise involved the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), where Deputy Alcantar observed the lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test, and Ashley did not walk heel-to-toe in a straight line as instructed. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Ashley did not raise her foot in the proper fashion and did not in the manner that she was instructed to do so.
Following the field sobriety exercises, Ashley was asked to voluntarily take a PBT test, and the results indicated a BAC of %. Based on her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises and the results of her PBT test (for motorists under 21), Deputy Alcantar placed Ashley under arrest for driving under the influence. Ashley was subsequently transported to the Pullman Police Department nearby to be processed. Her passenger was transported along with Ashley and she was permitted to wait in the lobby.
After Deputy Alcantar read her the Constitutional rights, Ashley waived them and agreed to answer questions. During the interview process, Ashley admitted to driving the vehicle under the influence. Deputy Alcantar read the Implied Consent Warnings to Ashley, and after she completed the observation period, she agreed to take a breathalyzer test. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC of %, which was nearly double the legal limit of % for motorists under the age of 21.
After the breathalyzer test, Ashley was released pending her first court appearance in the Whitman County District Court, and her and her roommate were given a courtesy transport back to their residence. She was cited under RCW for Driving under the Influence (DUI) under the age of 21.
On October 28, 2021, Ashley pleaded guilty to an amended charge under (2) – Minor In Possession/Exhibiting Effects of Liquor. She was sentenced to 3 hours of community service and ordered to pay a fine of $500, a $300 probation fee, and a $43 Criminal Conviction Fee.
