Babs Cooper - HOW AM I GONNA LEAVE YOU (Gold Star Studio) (1963)

NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Invicta 9004) Out of Los Angeles, the second of two discs by Barbara ’Babs’ Cooper that were distributed through CIRCA (Consolidated International Record Company of America) the other being ’Honest I Do’ issued the previous year on Indigo Records. Both discs were produced and arranged by Skip Battin who at this time in his early career often worked with Gary Paxton and Kim Fowley. He had a couple of hits with Gary Paxton as ’Skip & Flip’ and would later become a member of the Byrds. The session for this Invica Records release was held at Hollywood’s Gold Star Studios in April 1963. ’How Am I Gonna Leave You’ is finger-snapping slice of Girly Pop heaven that unfortunately, along along with the Indigo disc, didn’t make any waves among the record buying public. Barbara Cooper would go on to bigger things as a member of the classy female folk group, the WOMENFOLK which issued several LP’s and singles with RCA Victor Records. A highlight of their recorded material is the very Girl Group sounding, ’My Heart Tells Me To Believe’ from 1965. When the group disbanded, Barbara cut a marvelous disc also on RCA in 1966 entitled, ’The Playground’ b/w ’What’s One More Tear’.
