1926 Restored Footage of Tulsa, Oklahoma showing the Tulsa Business League leaving to attend lunch
Restored footage from c. 1926 of members of the Tulsa Business League leaving to attend lunch with Solomon Sir Jones, the person that recorded this footage.
Tulsa was home to the Greenwood district, also known as “Black Wall Street,” which was one of the most affluent majority black communities in the United States. In 1921, the Tulsa race massacre occurred in which the homes, businesses, and lives of black residents of Tulsa were attacked, leaving between 100-300 people killed, and over 8,000 residents left homeless. Many black residents were denied insurance claims on the damaged property so either left the city or had to rebuild their homes and businesses in the following years without insurance money.
