Excerpts from Algerian Compagnie Heddy Maaelm’s stunning work to Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring“. Getting a compliment out of me on a choreography outside of the original by Vaslav Nijinsky on “Le Sacre du Printemps“ (The Rite of Spring) is next to impossible but here it is. Heddy Maalem reaches some points of brilliance in this work. I don’t think it is entirely haven’t seen it in its entirety for starters and there are some spaces in these clips that prove it won’t be but 94 years after Nijinsky, Le Sacre du Printemps has been “created“, in my opinion. You can’t choreograph this piece. You have to create it. I think Heddy Maalem did it here. The last two clips are poor quality but it’s all I could find and I wanted to get it out there. It should come as no surprise that American audiences arrogantly whispered about Maaelm’s being white with an all-black ensemble. It must be some form of racism, right? I mean why else would a w
