The sign is 45 feet (13.7 m) tall and 350 feet (106.7 m) long. It was originally created in 1923 as a temporary advertisement for a local real estate development and cost $21,000 ($250,000 in present-day dollars). In 1978 The Hollywood Sign was replaced with a more durable all-steel structure. Systems including razor wire, 24-hour watch, motion sensors and even helicopter patrols are implemented in a bid to protect the Sign.
