Wilborn Arum, Brazilian Rosewood | Lindsay Straw

*Sold!* The one and only Wilborn we got to see in the shop this year! The Arum is from Ben’s Comma Series, about which he says: “In designing the Comma Series, I was driven by a desire to free the top from the inherent limitation and inefficiency of traditional X-bracing- that being the loss of meaningful vibration in the upper portion of soundboard due to the structural requirements created by a centrally located sound hole.“ Though the Arum is comparable in size, nothing about this guitar feels or sounds like a traditional 00. It has a full spectrum voice, missing nothing in the lows, mids or highs. This is due as much to the tonewoods—Brazilian rosewood and Adirondack spruce—as to Ben’s deliberate design. A subtle multi-scale ensures those sweeter short scale trebles and powerful standard scale basses. Fingerstylists in particular will appreciate the elevated fingerboard, which creates more complex overtones due to the change in angle at which the strings meet the bridge. Info: Lindsay plays her arrangement of “What A Voice“ (traditional) and John Renbourn’s arrangement of “I Saw Three Ships“.
