Facilities are open, but don’t forget your Northwest Forest Pass! The journey kicks off with a scenic 3-mile stretch, where the trail winds alongside the Taylor River through a lush, fern-draped forest that feels straight out of a fairytale. Keep your eyes peeled about 100 feet before the wooden bridge—you’ll spot a cairn marking the start of the unmarked trail to Marten Lake. Now, here’s where things get fun: it’s steep, rugged, and you’ll be scrambling over downed trees and rocks. You’ll briefly emerge from the forest canopy into an open field, where the trail narrows.
