Electric Guitar Build - Routing Pickups & Control Cavity #GGBO2022
In this video I show how I rout for the pickups and rear control cavity when building a custom electric guitar.
It starts with me showing how I check for and mark out the centre line (always the main point of reference on a guitar build) which gives me a point to work from.
Now the neck pocket is routed, all measurements are taken in relation to the neck of the guitar to ensure everything lines up and it will play properly.
The scale length (25“ / 635mm) is also marked at this point so I will have a nominal position for installing the bridge & drilling the holes for the strings.
Marked areas are first cleared of the bulk of material using a forstner bit in the pillar drill, then routed using a template to guide the router. I also demonstrate how i hold templates in place using masking tape and superglue.
