Health workers march against health policies, accuse govt of ’destroying’ public health sector

Led by trade unions, demonstrators marched through the city centre, demanding government action on what they call a deterioration of the public health sector. One protester, Jennifer, said “we, the Bichat - Beaujon committee, are fighting against the closure of a hospital which is located in a popular area of the city of Paris and which would like to close, in order to then build a, supposedly, a larger hospital, but which in fact will cut medical beds and cut jobs.“ Another protester, Christoph Prudhomme, representing French emergency doctors, added, “the government’s strategy is to destroy the public health service to open up to the health sector market which brews hundreds of billions.
