Over 20 indigenous languages are spoken in the country, representing the numerous ethnic groups who make up more than 95% of the population with Monrovia as a capital. Liberia is characterized by mostly flat to rolling coastal plains that contain mangroves and swamps, which rise to a rolling plateau and low mountains in the northeast. The utter beauty is to be found along the shimmering golden stretches of Atlantic coast, at the roaring surf spots and between the dense, chimp-peppered jungles of the inland.
