December 1984 - February 1985
We’re going to start covering very short periods of time with each video for a while now because the shows are just jam-packed with great stuff. Some new developments are the Crush Gals vs. Gokuaku Domei (Dump Matsumoto’s new faction after splitting from Devil Legion) feud is now the centrepiece of the promotion. Gokuaku Domei is usually translated as ’The Atrocious Alliance’, I personally like ’The League of Extreme Evil’. La Galactica is actually in Japan full-time for a 6 month run (her 1983 run was more like 6 weeks) so she feels like a proper member of the roster now. Also Itsuki Yamazaki and Noriyo Tateno have formed a tag team called ’Fresh Combi’, they’ll get a cooler name later.
Here is brief intro to the new roster members appearing in the video, in rough order of their debut.
1. Yumi Ogura - Debut 1983. A feisty, small but compact wrestler. She has previously appeared as an interviewee in the Documentary on Vol 5. She was the Junior champion from March - September 1984 before losing it to Keiko Nakano, who she has a bit of a rivalry with.
2. Bull Nakano - Debut 1983. Previously appeared as Keiko Nakano (her real name) where she was a member of Devil Legion. Not only did she win her debut match, something very rare in AJW, but her debut was a 1 vs. 2 handicap match with her defeating two wrestlers! Her 1st match on the set also happens to be her debut as ’Bull’. She won the Junior Title from Yumi Ogura on 9/13/84 but has vacated it (bluntly there’s nobody on the junior level who’s ever going to beat her). She has now joined Gokuaku Domei.
3. Mika Komatsu - Debut 1983. Her debut match was being squashed by Keiko Nakano as part of the aforementioned handicap match. Probably the least accomplished member of the Class of 1983 who is still wrestling by this point. She defeated Etsuko Kato on 12/10/84 to win the 1984 Rookie of the Year tournament.
Here are the contents of the video with timestamps. I can’t provide this without some slight spoilers, so if you wanna watch without major clues on how things unfold, maybe just don’t read it :)
