People at a camp for internally displaced persons (IDP) in northwestern Syria have been digging out after snowstorms hit the area. Some of the tents at the camp had reportedly collapsed trapping children inside after the heavy snow on January 19, 2021. Many are reportedly now without water or shelter at the camp in the Afrin district town of Rajo which is in the northern countryside near Aleppo. Syria has been caught up in civil war between pro-democratic insurgents and loyalists of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The IDP camp caught up in the severe weather is in an area controlled by Turkey and its Syrian proxies. Civil defence forces were not immediately able to reach the camp since roads have been blocked by snow.
