China’s Denial of Universal Human Rights: Conference
A conference addressing pressing human rights issues in China was held at the United Nations in Geneva on Jan. 22. The focus of this event revolved around the impending Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of China, with particular attention to the ongoing persecution and forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners.
The past five years have witnessed an alarming escalation of the persecution faced by Falun Gong practitioners in China. According to reports on , there have been a record high number of practitioners illegally imprisoned, tortured, and killed while in custody since the last UPR in 2018.
Of primary concern is the persistent evidence of forced organ harvesting by the Chinese regime, which was recognized by the European Parliament and various international governments in 2022. The findings echo the conclusions of the UK’s China Tribunal in 2020, confirming that forced organ harvesting is indeed occurring in China, with Falun Gong practitioners likely being a primary source of organs.
The conference aimed to provide a platform for a comprehensive discussion, fostering awareness and understanding of the issues.
