Diagnosis in Lacan (3 of 6): Diagnosis through speech
Freud had already suggested that how people speak - and by extension, their relation to language - proved a valuable diagnostic indicator. Via a series of quotes from Dany Nobus’ book ’Jacques Lacan and the Freudian Practice of Psychoanalysis’ (2000) we explore both how speech itself, and Lacan’s notion of the big Other, prove to be crucial for the practice of diagnosis. We note also that none of the three clinical structures (neurosis, psychosis and perversion) is necessarily ’psychopathological’.
