Lacan on Fantasy (8 of 9): Confronting impossibility

To illustrate the idea that fantasy stages an impossible gaze we make reference to the 1980’s movie ’Back to the Future’ where the protagonist Marty McFly manages to go back in time and arrange his own birth. Likewise helpful here are the origins stories that superhero comics endlessly reiterate. The theme of retroactivity also gets a mention, as does the wonderful (1968) Laplanche and Pontalis paper ’Fantasy and the origins of sexuality’. Link to board:
