Cai Guo-Qiang | Transient Rainbow

“Transient Rainbow“ is a 15 second-long pyrotechnic event conceived by artist Cai Guo-Qiang. It was commissioned by MoMA to celebrate the opening of its temporary home in Queens in 2002 and organized by Lilian Tone, Assistant Curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture. A rainbow of fireworks crossed the East River on June 29th, 2002, mirroring the Museum’s movement from Manhattan to Queens. The Museum moved back to its home on West 53rd Street in Manhattan in 2004.
