Just a little bit of fun. Did a couple of (rough) calculations and worked out that this is how 60009 Union of South Africa would be like if she was doing 100mph in steam days. The LNER A4’s did reach 100mph in their heydays and although over A4’s did much more than 100 including 60007 (4498) Sir Nigel Gresley and of course 60022 (4468) Mallard, it would have been brilliant to see John Cameron’s immaculate A4 achieving that feat.
