Buffalos stampede & throw lions into the air to save buffalo bull

We had been following members of the Kambula pride on Mala Mala for many hours, hoping for some lion-buffalo action! The buffalo and lions had been located the previous evening and we had spent time watching them as they trailed a large herd of buffalo. With no action that night, we returned to the lodge but headed out again with guests super early the next morning before the sun was even up, so that we could find the buffalo herd again and also hopefully the lions. After some time searching the area where we had left the lions and buffalo the previous evening, we managed to locate the large herd of buffalo and were very excited to find that the lions were also still close by. We followed the lions and buffalo for the whole morning and witnessed a number of exciting, but failed attempts of a kill by the lions, it was action packed to the max! It all culminated in the lions very nearly succeeding in bringing down a buffalo bull, but suddenly the rest of the herd came to it’s aid and literal
