June 13, 2010. After an incredible 7-year odyssey and a list of problems that would have normally expected to have meant loss of the mission, JAXA’s Hayabusa spacecraft has returned successfully to Earth.
In this stunning video taken from the NASA DC-8 plane being used to capture the spacecraft and capsule’s re-entry, you can see the break up of the main vehicle and just perhaps the tiny capsule as it continues to descend.
