Deconstructed Bloom With A New Southwest Color Palette!
This is the start of a 3 part series using Southwest colors! Inspired by a former student and emerging artist Ana from @saintcrossart , each painting will have a unique color palette that captures the wondrous beauty of the US southwest region. This first deconstructed bloom feels modern and fresh to me, and I really love the composition and the color blocking. Let me know which orientation you prefer!

PATREON:
THE RECIPE:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: Color To Go in Extra White at Sherwin Williams.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); and Valspar High Gloss Ultra Base C Untinted base (Lowe’s). 50/50. Mix well. NO varnish added!
Use the colors and brands of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here’s how to mix:
Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium.
Any brand fluid or high flow acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint, I added an 1/2 ounce of paint (1/2 teaspoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden’s High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) and stir well. All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol Amsterdam Lamp Black 2.5 -1 ratio Floetrol to paint.
