Headrush How-To: Custom Impedance Curves - Emulating Tube Power Amps
Today I show you just one way to use a parametric EQ to emulate power amp/speaker impedance curves when playing through solid state power amps into real guitar cabinets. If you’ve seen my video “Headrush Pedalboard Rig Template“ then I just wanna be up front and tell you that method is now old news to me.
As I explain in this video, this EQ trick emulates the impedance curve that exists between a specific power amp into a specific guitar cabinet and is ultimately meant to be applied when using a flat solid state power amp into a real guitar speaker cabinet to help the solid state power amp sound and feel more like a real tube power amp. I wont explain all the details here, but just know that I use this method 100% of the time not only when using SS power amps into cabs, but also when going direct, my logic there being that a powered FRFR and/or FOH PA speakers at venues are usually also solid state power amp based.
A huge thank you to James Freeman from the TGP who turned me on to this method and also did all the heavy lifting experimenting with his gear, taking measurements, and sharing his findings! All credit goes to him!

Compare to my original Jason Sadites based method in this video here:
All credit for that method and a big thank you goes to Jason Sadites!
