Now, I know some people will comment about the “Germany for Germans” line before the last chorus. According to the German Wikipedia, the line was most likely added by Ernst Busch refrencing to the American occupation of West Germany. The man in the picture is Ernst Thälmann, leader of the Red Front, which was the paramilitary organization of the communist party during the Weimar Republic, before it was banned. Wedding, a locality in Berlin, was called “Red Wedding“ for its militant, largely Communist working class, where communists and nazis had clashes in the 1920’s.
