SUB)Harvesting Lithops Seed Pods: From Flower to Seed
Hello everyone! 🌱
Today, we are diving into the process of harvesting Lithops seed pods. Last October, I pollinated the Lithops flowers, and in May, I harvested the seed pods. Here are the key points we covered in the video:
Main Content:
1. Pollinating Lithops Flowers:
• Lithops flowers are usually pollinated in the fall. Self-pollination is almost impossible, and even clumped Lithops rarely set seed. Cross-pollination with another plant’s pollen is necessary.
2. Seed Pod Formation and Growth:
• After pollination, seed pods form and grow slowly over several months.
3. Preparing to Harvest Seed Pods:
• By May, the seed pods turn brown and hard, indicating they are ready for harvest.
4. Harvesting Seed Pods:
• Harvest seed pods gently by twisting them off or using tweezers. Keep them dry, as mature seed pods will open when they come into contact with water.
5. Extracting and Storing Seeds:
• Carefully open the seed pods to extract the seeds.
