For the first time ever in its 43 year history of the Pitch Black exercise the Italian Navy (Marina Militare) arrive in the port of Darwin with the aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and its Carrier Air Wing. The Cavour Carrier Strike Group has arrived in Australia ahead of its participation in the Royal Australian Air Force exercise Pitch Black 24. The Carrier Air Wing consists of AV-8B/ TAV-8B Harrier II Jump Jets assigned to the Gruppo Aerei Imbarcati ’Wolves’ (Squadron), F-35B Lightning II, and NH-90 ASW Helicopters. The Air Wing departed C550 ITS Cavour and landed at RAAF Base Darwin prior to the carriers arrival into the Port of Darwin where it docked at HMAS Coonawarra. #marinamilitare #italy #raaf #australia
