This cantata revolves around the biblical story of the foolish and the wise bridesmaids: the latter miss the wedding feast because they did not have oil ready for their lamps when the bridegroom arrived. This duet is a love duet between the anima (soul) and her bridegroom (Christ), with texts from the Song of Songs, the wedding book of the Old Testament.
