Michael Watts Plays The Somogyi Diospyros Acoustic Guitar!

Thanks for visiting! Please Subscribe to support my channel! Ervin Somogyi is regarded by many as the father of the modern luthier-built steel string guitar. His instruments have a reputation for extraordinary sound, power and beauty and this, his 500th guitar is a sublime example. The Diospyros takes its name from the Ebony that was used to make the back and sides of the instrument. This is intricately inlayed with a mosaic pattern. The carved rosette features a Celtic relief hand-cut with a scalpel over a background of Japanese silk paper. This is a 14 fret Modified Dreadnought, a design created by Ervin Somogyi in the late 1970’s. To my mind the Modified Dreadnought, or MD as it has come to be known, represents the pinnacle of fingerstyle lutherie and it was a joy to spend time with this superbly expressive instrument. I hope I did it justice. MDW
