Hamas Chief Assassinated In Iran | Who Was Ismail Haniyeh | Israel Hamas War | Hezbollah | Lebanon | Former President of Palestine | Hamas Israel War Live | Hamas Vs Israel | Israel Vs Hamas | Israel Gaza War Israel Hamas War: Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said early Wednesday, and Hamas blamed Israel for the attack. Israel has vowed to kill Haniyeh and other leaders of Hamas over the group’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people and saw some 250 others taken hostage. Haniyeh, 61, had left the Gaza Strip in 2019 and lived in exile in Qatar. His sons and sister were killed by Israel in the Gaza Strip recently. Haniyeh was born in the Shati refugee camp on Jan. 29, 1963. His family fled to Gaza from the village of al-Jura in Ashkelon that was depopulated before Israel’s creation in 1948. Haniyeh joined Hamas when it was founded in 1987 and rose through the ranks to become its top political official. Years after the group was founded, Haniyeh became the head of the office of Hamas founder Ahmad Yassin. Over the years, Haniyeh escaped several assassination attempts. In 2005, Haniyeh was elected head of the Reform and Change List affiliated with Hamas in the Palestinian legislative elections. He assumed the position of prime minister in the Palestinian government after Hamas won. But Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas fired him after Hamas took over the Gaza Strip by force leading to deep divisions between the two largest Palestinian factions. Haniyeh served as prime minister of the Hamas government following the 2007 takeover of Gaza by Hamas from Abbas’ Fatah group. Haniyeh later became Hamas’ political chief, replacing Khaled Mashaal in 2017. Haniyeh is survived by several children and grandchildren.
