Beijing urges Washington to stop ’demonising’ China, blames US for standstill in relations

The US has said it is not seeking conflict with China as rare high-level talks kick off in Tianjin. Things have gotten off to a tense start, with Beijing urging the US to stop “demonising“ China. It has blamed Washington for a stalemate in relations. China has issued a list of demands to the US, which include lifting sanctions on Chinese officials and visa restrictions on students. US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman is the highest-level US official to visit China under the Biden administration.
