Detroit Pizza Overrated? Think Again!

DETROIT STYLE PIZZA Ingredients: For the Dough: 4 cups all-purpose flour 1 ½ teaspoons salt 1 ½ teaspoons sugar 1 package of active dry yeast (1/4 ounce or 2 1/4 teaspoons) 2 cups warm water (110°F) For the Pizza: Garlic Powder Basil (fresh or dried, for seasoning) Soppressata slices Pepperoni slices 1 cup cheddar cheese, cut into cubes 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, cut into cubes 1 cup shredded mozzarella 24 oz jar of tomato sauce Olive oil (for greasing the pan and drizzling on top) 10x14-inch baking pan Pizza oven temperature: 500-600°F Instructions: 1. Prepare the Dough: a. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. b. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. c. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. d. Mix until a dough forms. e. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. f. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size. 2. Prepare the Pizza: a. Preheat your pizza oven to 500-600°F. b. Grease a 10x14-inch baking pan with olive oil and dust it with cornmeal. c. Gently stretch and press the dough into the pan, ensuring it reaches the edges and corners. d. Let the dough rest for 15-20 minutes to rise slightly. e. Drizzle olive oil over the dough and spread minced garlic and basil for seasoning. f. Evenly distribute the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese cubes, followed by soppressata and pepperoni slices. g. Spread tomato sauce over the toppings in three rows, leaving some space between each row h. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the top. i. Bake in the preheated pizza oven for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. j.
