Margot Fonteyn, Rudolph Nureyev - ’Le Corsaire’ PDD and Gala Program (see ‘Notes’)

This footage is everywhere and known by everyone BUT I couldn’t bear not having it on my channel! I only saw Fonteyn and Nureyev perform this famous pas de deux once - at a Gala Performance for the Fanfare for Europe at Covent Garden in the presence of Princess Margaret. It was on 19th January 1973. I’ve added the program at the front of the footage - it was an amazing evening, with companies and famous dancer presenting from all over Europe: Vivi Flindt, Toni Lander, Henning Kronstam and Brice Marks from The Royal Danish Ballet offered ‘The Moor’s Pavane’. Carla Fracci and Paolo Bortoluzzi from the Ballet of La Scala gave the pas de deux from Act 2 of ‘Coppelia’. Svetlana Beriosova and Donald MacLeary from the Royal Ballet performed a pas de deus from ‘The Lady and the Fool’. Angele Albrecht and Daniel Lommel from Ballet of the C20 presented a pas de deux from ‘Bhakti’. Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev from the Royal Ballet danced a pas de deux from ’Le Corsaire’.
