Hit-and-run collision between protoplanets

Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) high-resolution ( million particles) collision simulation of a hit-and-run encounter between large protoplanets with a mass ratio of 1:9, and a combined total mass of 1e25 kg. The front half of the bodies is cut away to visualize the internal distribution of material types - iron (black), silicates (red), water (white). The collision velocity is 2.5 times the mutual escape velocity, and the impact angle set to 45°.
