David Turnley is an esteemed American photojournalist and documentary photographer whose career spans several decades. Born in 1955 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Turnley developed a passion for photography at a young age. He studied French literature at the University of Michigan and later pursued a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
Turnley’s photography career took off when he began covering international news events, including conflicts and humanitarian crises, for major publications such as Time and Newsweek. His work has taken him to some of the most tumultuous regions of the world, including South Africa during apartheid, the Middle East during the Gulf War, and the Balkans during the Yugoslav Wars.
