This lesson will introduce you to the often complex world of re-harmonization. That is, changing the chords underneath an existing melody (whether vocal or instrumental). This offers us a great deal of variation and flexibility in how we choose the chords we use, without upsetting the melody. It allows us to keep performances fresh, fun and improvised, while still allowing the melody to flow in its recognisable way. Additionally, exploring this concept will teach you about how certain chords are closely related, where shared notes are involved, allowing us to expand our harmonic options in a given musical situation effectively, without wandering into the musical wilderness.
