Mischa Elman plays Fritz Kreisler: “Praeludium and Allegro in the style of Pugnani“
Mischa Elman (1891 - 1967) and Fritz Kreisler (1875 - 1962) were two well-known recording violinists in the early part of the 20. century whose popularity diminished as their older, more “romantic“ style grew out of fashion. Although Elman’s early discs display a much tighter technical grasp of the instrument, his LPs give a rare insight into what this style of performance sounds like when heard through the full spectrum of sound.
Here Elman performs Kreisler’s piece “Praeludium and Allegro in the style of Pugnani“.
