Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love) Interview - The Seventh Art

Christopher Doyle discusses his cinematography philosophies and life lessons. Christopher Doyle is one of the world’s most recognizable cinematographers, whose work in Hong Kong with directors such as Edward Yang, Patrick Tam, Stanley Kwan and especially Wong Kar-wai gave him international renown. He has since worked extensively in Chinese cinema, including Peter Chan, Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou, while also working with Western directors Gus Van Sant, Jim Jarmusch, M. Night Shyamalan, Phillip Noyce and more. Christopher was in Toronto for TIFF’s A Century of Chinese Cinema program, which included his installation, Away With Words. It was our pleasure to invite him to Sex Laser for a few rounds of drinks and talk about life lessons, art philosophy, and deliberately misleading his mother about the start-time of a Happy Together screening.
