At the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pays an official visit to China on November 4. Scholz becomes the first Western leader to go on an official visit to China following the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Despite the persistent COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitics, the bilateral trade has been growing over the past two years, hitting record highs. Last year, a total of the two-way trade exceeded $239 billion, and China has been Germany’s largest trading partner for six consecutive years. What will be the prospects of deeper bilateral ties and China-EU relations?
