The main character receives a message from the planet of his distant ancestors that an unprecedented typhoon is approaching the former state of Louisiana and he and his dog decide to illegally take part in a rescue operation to evacuate the local population. Along the way, he meets various of his fellow space marines. upon arrival at the place of the sent message, he learns that those who sent the signal died a long time ago, and he received the signal from the past. After taking the local musicians, he returns to his place of service.
