Waši∙šiw ɁitdeɁ (Washeshu It’deh) – “The Land of the Peoples from Here”

The Washoe People have lived in the Lake Tahoe region since time immemorial. The land of the area, including both the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Carson Valley have supported the people and they have supported the land. Now, climate change is affecting both the land and the Tribe, with more intense and more frequent wildfires, changing precipitation and river flow patterns, and frequent flood events. In response to these changes, the Tribe is working to bring the community, especially the youth, back to the land to complete restoration projects that improve the resilience of traditionally important species and enhances their cultural connections to each other and the landscape.
