Why Palpatine Didn’t Send In More Star Destroyers To Endor The Empire had a fleet of over 25,000 Star Destroyers but only used a few dozen during the incredibly important Battle of Endor. So was Palpatine just an idiot? Well no. Palpatine was banking on the fact that the rebels did not know the Death Star was operational and that the shield generator was heavily protected by the 501st legion. If it wasn’t for the meddling of the Ewoks, it is likely that the Empire would have been able to prevent the rebels from destroying the shields and the trap would have worked. From Palpatines perspective, more ships would have been overkill and would have been detrimental to his plan. If Palpatine deployed 100’s of ships to the area, this would have left systems vulnerable to uprisings, revolts and attacks from the rebel alliance.
