Jun’ichi Kouchi’s Namakura Gatana (“A Fine Sword“) is a rather old and unique animation about an incompetent samurai who purchases a dull sword. He returns to complain to the seller only to be humiliated. Initially praised for its purely Japanese characters and subject matter upon its release in 1917, this animation has a very distinct style I’ve not seen elsewhere.
