As the tango craze swept through Europe in the 1930s, Warsaw became the Eastern European capital of this dance and bore witness to the birth of its most eclectic permutation: Yiddish tango. Polish-Israeli singer Olga Avigail Mieleszczuk, one of Europe’s premier performers and scholars of Jewish music, presents a magical, multilingual concert that includes new arrangements merging the traditional Argentinian sound with the unique style of pre-war tango, which was heavily influenced by klezmer. During this concert, Olga shares the stage with her band, Tango Attack, as well as a pair of talented tango dancers (from the group “Tango Dos“) who perform during several songs. The concert also features a special guest performance by noted NYC clarinetist Michael Winograd. Sponsored by the Polish Cultural Institute of New York and Momentum Artists, this event was recorded at the JCC in Manhattan.
