Liszt v Thalberg: the duel of 1837 (Hungarian, with subtitles)
From Szerelmi álmok – Liszt (1970)
A recreation of the infamous piano duel in 1837.
Thalberg performs his Fantasy on Moses in Egypt, and Liszt replies with Mazeppa (note that this is not the authentic duel programme - Liszt’s two pieces were the Niobe Fantasy and his arrangement of Weber’s Konzertstuck.)
The credits suggest that Moses is performed by Sviatoslav Richter, while Mazeppa is performed by Gyorgy Cziffra.
