Mocănița Maramureș: Europe’s last forestry steam train 🚂🌄

In this exciting episode, I invite you on a journey back in time aboard Romania’s Mocănița Maramureș train, a railway gem that will transport us to a bygone era full of charm and nostalgia. As we head into the magical forests of the Maramureș region, in the north of Romania and almost on the border with Ukraine, this train with its steam locomotives transports us to another era. We will explore the history behind this train, from its humble beginnings as a logging train, still in operation today, to its current role as a tourist attraction. Throughout the journey, I will share the experience of taking this route, as well as some fun facts. We will see the imposing steam engine up close, hear the characteristic whistle that has echoed through these forests for generations and feel the palpable excitement of the locomotive in full operation. Not forgetting the breathtaking nature that surrounds us throughout the journey, enjoying spectacular panoramic views of the Romanian countryside, with majestic mountains, meandering rivers and lush forests that look like something out of a fairy tale. In addition, we will see what dishes are served, both breakfast and lunch, with the special ticket that costs around 30 euros. And we’ll also see why there are cute dogs at the stops, and even on board the train, and how they have transformed several vans into quirky locomotives.
