In this lesson we are taking a look at intracranial hemorrhages or head bleeds that are the result of various traumatic brain injuries, or TBIs. I begin by giving and overview of what intracranial hemorrhages are as well as listing the 6 different bleeds group in to either extra-axial or intra-axial hemorrhages.
Following that with a quick review of the meninges, which are the protective layers of the brain. It is important to understand these meninges and its layers to better understand where these extra-axial bleeds are taking place.
From there, one by one, we go through each of the types of intracranial bleeds, from epidural hematoma, to subdural hematoma, to Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. We continue on with Intraventricular Hemorrhage, Cerebral Contusion, and finish finally with Intracerebral Hemorrhage. For each of these I talk about where the bleeding is in the skull and brain, how a patient would get it, how they would present with that bleed, show an example of what the bleed looks like on
