We arrive at our final destination in this weeks’ Dungeon Synth Sunday, to the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest, and the latest release from Cascadian pagan folk metal project Heáfodbán
One of the most intriguing projects to have emerged over the past year, Heáfodbán have shifted through Cascadian post-black metal, through brutish folk-shaded war metal to this unique soundscape to complement their wide and wild-ranging journey of “anti-modern mutations”.
Raw doomy drones, mournfully melodic tones, folk movements and forest rhythm flicker, fade and blur between each other’s light and shadows, as their forms meld across this album. As structurally intriguing as it is sonically, beginning in a short acoustic jig, though a 10-minute metamorphosis, towards the 40-minute third act that plays out on a monumental scale similar to a Godspeed narrative.
The album is released in digital form by the Heáfodbán collective label Northern Doom, with a physical copy i
