The woman girded her chest and wrapped her feet,with a full bodice that exquisite and complicated with eight pieces.
Women were confined to the courtyard and rarely participate in social activities.
1910s
In the 1910s, people value thinness. The collar was made in the shape of silver ingot, buttons were gathering and the clothes clung to the skin.
1920s
After The May 4th movement,the new Chinese women cut the hair and no longer foot-binding, participating in more social activities, with tight jackets and short ’s called “Dao Da Xiu”.
1930s
With the western wind in Chinese style, the early modern woman abandoned the corset, wear the cheongsam to put long and thin slender, wrap a woman graceful curve.
1940 s
With the post-war scarcity, women’s clothing became more simple, collar height was only an inch, the length of the short, and very rarely inlaid with button decoration.
1950s- 1960s
Influenced by western clothing styles, cheongsam shapes and emphasizes the concave-convex curves of women’s bodies through silhouette, and becomes a common and formal dress for professional women in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
