MIT’s self-assembling chair

Researchers at MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab are working on developing Fluid Assembly system which enables autonomous assembly in complex and uncontrolled environments such as water, air and space. In this experiment a number of components are released into a tank of turbulent water. Each of the components is completely unique from one another and has a precise location in the final structure. The chair is made up of six components. Each is embedded with magnets and has an unique connection point that allows it
