Mėtaujėla | Mint - Ancient Lithuanian War Song by Ugniavijas
Ancient Lithuanian war song “Mėtaujėla“ (Mint plant) performed by Lithuanian band Ugniavijas. This is probably the oldest song which Lithuanians can tie to an exact date, because it is thought to be directly connected with the fall of Kaunas (now second biggest city in Lithuania) castle in 1362. While we can’t check whether that is true or not, this type of songs (“sutartinė“, direct translation - “the agreed one“, Lithuanian multipart song) are considered to be the most archaic form of Lithuanian folk songs and according to scientists date back to some certainly dark corners of our past.
This is a live acoustic performance from the band’s concert in January 16th 2021 in the opening of the exhibition named “A Nation Skilled in War.
